The First Stone of the M24 The Future Museum Dedicated to Motorsport Has Been Laid
Wednesday, May 28, 2025, marks a historic milestone for motorsport and the cultural heritage of Sarthe. Pierre Fillon and Richard Mille officially laid the first stone of the M24, the future museum dedicated to motorsport.

Located at the North Gate of the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit, the “M24” project reflects the ambition to transform the current 24 Hours of Le Mans Museum into a world-class venue dedicated to the history, culture, and innovation of motorsport.
Since its founding in 1961, the museum has continuously reinvented itself. After celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023 with a redesigned permanent exhibition and exceptional temporary displays, the M24 project marks a major new chapter.
With a total surface area expanded to 8,600 m², M24 will offer an immersive journey through all forms of motorsport—from Formula 1 and Endurance to Rally and American motorsport culture (IndyCar, CanAm…).
Designed by Frédéric Audevard, the future building features bold architecture with a focus on environmental responsibility.
Inspired by the aerodynamics of racing prototypes, M24 will include a green roof, sustainable materials like aluminum, and a visitor flow layout modeled on the airflow around a car body.
Overseen by MACO (Musée Automobile de la Compétition), in partnership with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, the project brings together 23 companies—most of them based in Sarthe.
Construction, which began in January 2025, is progressing on schedule, with the official opening planned just before the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Pierre Fillon: “The M24, a future museum dedicated to motorsport, will rise in Le Mans, driven by the ACO and Richard Mille, a true enthusiast and collector. This ambitious project will highlight the history of racing and contribute to the cultural and economic influence of the region. Its opening is scheduled for May 2026, in time for the 120th anniversary of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest.”
Richard Mille: “Sharing my passion for motorsport through a one-of-a-kind museum is a dream come true with the laying of the M24’s first stone. Born from a natural collaboration with the ACO, this project will showcase a collection of exceptional vehicles—true mechanical works of art. Located in the heart of Le Mans, a land of legend, the M24 aims to become a global benchmark and a must-visit destination for all enthusiasts.”
